Since 1997, the Mentor Program has continued to inspire and enhance the educational experience of MCNY students. We motivate our peers to strive towards academic, professional and personal excellence and support their academic, career, and personal development. We are "Students Coaching Students for Success."
Who We Are
Made up of a carefully selected group of current students and alumni of the College, mentors act as resource persons, coaches, motivators, and confidants, helping to make the transition to college life a smooth one. They are available to provide academic coaching, guidance and support to students at the College. Mentors are current or graduate students of MCNY, Presidential Scholars, Dean's List recipients, Who's Who in American University and Colleges students, National Honor Society recipients, Advisory Council Members, and faculty and staff.
What We Do
The primary objective of the mentor program is to promote the advancement of students towards their goal of receiving a college education. In addition to providing leadership skills, the program affords mentors the opportunity to develop on an academic, personal, and professional level, while adding a distinctive component to their resumes.
The Mentor Program is not for just anyone. It is for those students who have demonstrated a dedication to empowering both themselves and their fellow peers as reflected by their academic performance and leadership in the classroom. Being a mentor is primarily about helping others, and for that reason, the desire to help others is the core characteristic of a mentor. If you enjoy helping others, and have demonstrated a dedication to empowering yourself as a student, we invite you to attend the open house so that you may learn how the Mentor Program can further your potential, promote the achievement of your goals, and make your experience at MCNY even more rewarding.

Each year the Mentor program, which presently has 43 mentors who are a representation of upperclassmen, alumni, staff, faculty and advisory council members; hopes to add an additional 43 members to its roster. This is done through a dual entrance requirement system.
First, all new mentors must be recommended through the Legacy 43 Partnership program. This program has been designed and implemented to incorporate the selection/recommendation of new mentors by present mentors. Each of the 43 present mentors will submit names of new candidates. The candidates will then go through the four-session leadership Development Certificate training program.
Upon completion of this training, each candidate will then be awarded the Certificate of Completion and Pinned a Mentor of MCNY.
