Constructive Action

At the end of each semester, each student produces a written project known as a Constructive Action or CA. The CA is the heart of MCNY's Purpose-Centered Education, which encompasses learning, action and assessment. This means that first you acquire the necessary information and skills, next you put that knowledge to use in a professional setting and, finally, you reflect and analyze the results. The CA is a workable plan of action for the student to address the instructional challenges of a secondary mathematics classroom. This project illustrates how well a student has integrated theories from class to the school setting in an effective, relevant, scholarly and clearly documented manner.

The following are the types of Constructive Actions that will be submitted for Purpose 1, 2 and 3:

Purpose 1
A pre-student teaching field experience study that documents my secondary mathematics classroom teaching performance through integrating the learning-teaching context with appropriate lessons.

Purpose 2
Designing, implementing and reflecting on the effectiveness of my teaching a mathematical topic in a middle school math class.

Purpose 3
A Teacher Work Sample that demonstrates evidence of my ability to facilitate learning for all students in a high school mathematics classroom.
