About this Program
This 1-year, 3-semester, 43-credit program is designed for the person who is committed to the education of all children in diverse urban and suburban schools and has the intellectual capacity, preparation and motivation to pursue an intensive schedule of study and practice.
Course Offerings
The complete one-year degree program requires 43 credits. The students will earn 16 credits for Semester 1, 13 credits for Semester 2, and 16 credits for Semester 3. This includes 120 hours of field Observation and Participation in the first semester and 32 days of Teaching Practicum for each of the second and third semesters.

NY State Teacher Certification Exam
The L.A.S.T. is a 4-hour test that consists of an 80 multiple-choice question exam and a written assignment exam.
Transfer Credits and Advanced Standing
A maximum of 6 graduate credits may, if pertinent to the course study, be applied toward meeting the requirements of the master's degree. Approved transfer credits are not recorded as part of the grade point average. Any application of transfer credit must have the written approval of the Program Director before the prospective student begins the program.

Constructive Action
The Constructive Action is the heart of MCNY's Purpose-Centered Education. Each semester students produce a Constructive Action (CA) paper that not only demonstrates mastery of the semester's Purpose, but also seeks to improve or address a specific situation at the work or internship site.
Title V - Vaughn College
Through an imaginative collaboration of a TITLE V grant, Metropolitan College of New York and Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology have formed a pathway for students at Vaughn to continue on to become certified secondary math school teachers through a one year Master of Science Degree in Mathematics Education Grades 7 - 12.
